How to Add a Custom Email Domain to iCloud Mail

Using your own custom domain for email makes your business look professional and trustworthy. With the introduction of iCloud+, Apple now allows you to connect your own domain to iCloud Mail. That means you can use Apple’s advanced spam filtering, security, and seamless integration with Apple devices — all while keeping your own branded email address.

In this guide, we’ll show you step-by-step how to set up your custom domain email on iCloud Mail using your cPanel hosting.

Why Use iCloud Mail with a Custom Domain?

Here are some of the biggest benefits:

  • Professional branding – use your own domain (e.g., [email protected]).
  • Apple integration – works perfectly across iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
  • Reduced hosting load – emails are offloaded from your hosting package.
  • Independent backup – extra resilience compared to hosting-only email.
  • Advanced spam filtering – Apple’s security protects your inbox.

Step 1: Enable iCloud Mail

Before you add your custom domain, you need iCloud Mail activated on your Apple account.

iPhone / iPad (iOS or iPadOS)

  1. Unlock your device and go to Settings.
  2. Tap your Apple ID / Name.
  3. Tap iCloud.
  4. Select Mail and toggle it ON.

Mac (macOS)

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Select Apple ID > iCloud.
  3. Enable the Mail option.

Windows 10

  1. Download iCloud for Windows from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Install and restart your PC.
  3. Open the iCloud app and sign in with your Apple ID.
  4. Tick the Mail option and click Apply.

Step 2: Add Your Custom Domain in iCloud+

You’ll need an active iCloud+ subscription to use custom domains.

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com with your Apple ID.
  2. Go to Account Settings.
  3. Scroll down and click Manage under Custom Email Domain.
  4. Enter the domain you want to use (e.g., yourbusiness.co.uk).
  5. Add any existing email addresses you want linked.

Step 3: Update Your DNS in cPanel

Now you need to configure your domain’s DNS records so that Apple can handle your mail.

Log into your cPanel account and open the Zone Editor. Add the following records (replace yourdomain.tld with your actual domain):

MX Records

  • Type: MXHost: yourdomain.tld.Value: mx01.mail.icloud.com.Priority: 10
  • Type: MXHost: yourdomain.tld.Value: mx02.mail.icloud.com.Priority: 10

TXT Record (Verification)

  • Type: TXTHost: yourdomain.tld.Value: [Unique string provided by iCloud setup]

SPF Record

  • Type: TXTHost: yourdomain.tld.Value: v=spf1 include:icloud.com ~all

DKIM Record

  • Type: CNAMEHost: sig1._domainkey.yourdomain.tld.Value: sig1.dkim.yourdomain.tld.at.icloudmailadmin.com.

⚠️ The exact TXT verification record will be generated by Apple during setup. Make sure to copy it exactly.

Step 4: Wait for DNS Propagation

Once your records are saved, it may take up to 24 hours for changes to propagate worldwide. After that, return to your iCloud setup page and click Finish Setup.

You’re Done!

Your email is now hosted on iCloud Mail with your own domain name. You can send and receive email through Apple Mail on iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Windows, while still enjoying all the benefits of your custom brand identity.
